That's right, we're home! Christopher and I had a good night (despite a bit of a noisy roommate), and his blood pressure and oxygen levels were great this morning. So, his doctors decided it was reasonable for us to head home today! We were so pleasantly surprised.
It took most of the day to get all of our follow-up appointments and referrals sorted out (physio, OT, pediatrician, cardiology, cardiac surgery, and neurology...phew) and we also had to do a few things for a stroke trial that we've agreed to participate in. Then we had some goodbyes to say, to the pastoral care worker and our cardiac care nurse. But then, finally, we said goodbye to the nurses and hit the road.
Brad and I both blinked back tears (okay, mine poured out) as we left CHEO. We feel incredibly blessed to have landed there and very grateful for the amazing care which Christopher received. We also feel very, very fortunate to be leaving with a healthy, happy little boy!
I hugged the cardiac surgery nurse, Tara, this afternoon when she came to say goodbye. I told her that "thank you" just doesn't seem adequate for all the amazing things that she did for us. The same goes for the many, many people out there in cyberspace, nearby and around the world, who have rallied around our family in the past three and a half weeks. We simply will never be able to truly express our gratitude for your prayers, positive thoughts, kind words, and thoughtful gestures. And so, all I can do is to say thank you.
Saying goodbye to Grandma at the hospital this morning.
Best news EVER!!!!!! Can't even find the words to say how happy I am for you all. What an incredible journey you have all taken these past few weeks, and now you get to sit back, relax and finally enjoy your little boy. Katie must have been thrilled to have him home and mummy and daddy too. Can't wait to see you all again soon, love Joyce and Kayleigh
